Check Out This Alley Find!!!

Okay!  So, it's been a little while since I found this in the alley!  BUT!  I have to tell you!  It was an amazing find.

Remember!  I love it when neighbors I don't know move!  I'm sad to see people I know leave.  BUT!  You just have to love it when any of them leave great STUFF in the alley.

One afternoon the sun is shining, my head phones and I are really gettin' into some Dave Matthews and what do I see???  I'm thinking,,, NO WAY!  I was just wishing I had one of these to make my life so much easier!!!  What  did I find???  SCORE!!!!

Now, I'm thinking to myself, of course it won't work!  You know people don't just throw away things like this when they work.  SO!  Joy and I kept walking down the alley.  We only had 3 blocks to go, then we'd cut through the park and come back this way again!  WELL!  We only made it one block and I nearly ran back to that garbage can.  Not only was there a tile saw there,,, there was also a small kids mini bike there.  YEP!  Powered mini bike.  LIKE IN MINI MOTORCYCLE!  I didn't know any one with kids that small... so I left it.  It was there for over a week.  I called every one I knew and no one wanted it.

WELL!  Joy and I nearly ran all the way home with this little find of ours.  OK!  So, it's not small, but it sure can cut glass.  You see I was using a $350 glass band saw before that seemed to take 2 to 3 minutes to cut the end off a wine bottle.  This new saw,,, well,,, it cuts them off in seconds.  BUT!  The cut is no where near as clean or nice!  Because the product I was making out of this glass didn't need to be a perfect cut, this was the perfect tool to use.

Check out some pictures of the tool and the "alley" I now have at home...  Alley you ask?  You'll see!!!

Sorry about the picture.
This sits next to a fence on the south side of my house.

Joy and I go through our alleys 2 times a day to find these wonderful bottles.  Joy gets too tired to walk 3 miles in one trip.

MY ALLEY!  This is the south side of my house.  Here I can break all the glass I do and not worry about any one getting hurt.  Notice all the Coke and blue bottles at the top of the picture.

SO!!!  What do you,,, okay!  What do I do with all those bottles that you see???  Why, make some thing craptastic!!!  OK!  I hope it turns out to be craptastic!!!

Some bottle tops are melted, slumped, into "beach glass".  When you slump or slightly melt the tops of the bottles they get a hazy look about them.  They look like they just came off the beach.

The neck of a Coke bottle after it's slumped.  Don't you just love these colors!!!???  Obviously, I DO!

Mickey's big mouth beer bottle top!  Thank goodness some one drinks beer.  You see,,, I don't!

Pop, wine, beer, Startbucks, juice.
You name it.  I cut it!

I love this blue!!!  Don't they look like lifesavers candys???

This is tough to see.  BUT!  I put those tops in between the driftwood and STUFF to make hangings that look like they have beach glass!!!

Some of the bottles I cut the bottoms off of!  Then I put them into concrete.  I put 2 bottoms together and you can see all the way through them.  Some I add glass inside so you can get lots of color.  Some I added sea shells.  I wish I had a good picture to show you.  How about some day this coming week I'll do a quick tutorial on them and you can see how to make them.  These were a BIG hit at the garden show!  Let's say,,, I made over 200 of them and I have one left... and that's because it didn't go to the show.  It's full of antique marbles!

Here is a booth shot showing "bricks" of concrete full of color.  These are the bottoms of bottles.  You can see all the way through these bricks.  TONS OF COLOR!!!

As you can see.  For me, it's all about recycle.  I don't believe in buying new materials when there is so much out there to use for free.  You just have to go find it.  That can take a long time!  BUT!  Enough of this!  Now I want to show you how to do this!!!!  SO!  Be on the lookout for an easy way to do these concrete blocks coming later this week!!!  I still have one week left to behave or the doctor promised to spank me.  HUM?????  Okay!  Never mind!  I'm still on a 15 pound weight lifting restriction due to my appendectomy 8 days ago.  SO!  I'll see you at the end of this week for the tutorial!!!

Thanks for stopping by and have a good one!  Shell

Guess What Happened ??? On The Way To The ...

Okay!  So, here I was ... totally rested and ready to add a few good posts here and make some art there.  WHEN!  I had this funny feeling in my stomach area.  Nothing new.  You see 2 weeks before Sorticulture I had this same feeling.  This time I happened to touch my side and OOPS!  It hurt.  The next day I went to the doctor.  The following day I went to the hospital and the next morning ... they removed my appendix!  OOPS!  What a trip!

Now, I'm at home being spoiled by family and friends and Chicken Soup!  Thank you Janet!  You guys are the best.  Each and every one of you!  THANK YOU!!!

Monday is the day they'll let me know any results from the lab tests of that rotten appendix.  Then, I still have 10 days to behave.  That means no lifting any thing over 15 pounds.  HA!  Every thing I do is over 15 pounds. Some day, when you are really bored, take a long hard look at what you do.  You will be amazed at how much you do and what it weighs.

SO!  Until later this coming week!!!!!!  Thanks for stopping by and have a good one!  Shell

How Do You Set Up A Booth At A Show?

When you get to a show, to set up, one of the first things you have to think of is the weather.  WELL!  At least here in the Northwest.  You see, it doesn't matter what month of the year it is, we expect it to rain.  SO!  Around here the first thing you think of is a tent.  WELL!  Mine is old, used and very droopy.  But, it gets the job done.  It gives our customers a place to hide from the rain and keep them dry.

SO!  Here's a few fun pictures of what my booth looked like, baggy tent and all!

I put as much stuff into my booth as I can
creatively shove!   :)

These pictures were taken before every thing was put into the booth as people were already coming through at 8 am to buy, even though the show didn't open until 10.

I paid for 2 booths,
then a person next to me didn't show up.
I loved the extra room!

This is a messy shot, but you can see some of the props I
use to set up.  Like the wonderful pink cast iron crib to
hold signs and more!

Here's a better shot of the crib.  Isn't it wonderful?

I always have lots to hang,
so I use the tent structure itself.
This time the plant took over my aisle.  OOPS!

I use a set of 6 doors, shutters and ladder sections to
hold things that would hang on your wall at home.

This way I have 2 sides to each and lots of room.

Can you see my boot on the bottom left of the picture?  It's filled with concrete and a bent rebar hook.  Then I add a piece of rope from the hook to the tent frame.  It helps hold my tent in place!
I call them "footings".

My lapis ladders sold quickly.
The fun license plate boxes were a hit at only $10 each.

The small metal headboard has a "seat" on it.  I welded this to hold more signs and "things".  The ground in this park is like concrete with green carpet on top.

Stuff piled and hung on every thing.

Again I used the tent frame to hang things from.

This wonderful bike sold quickly.

I got all these hung up as the morning went on and brought in more art as the customers let me through.  Some of the art sold as I was taking it out of the boxes and tubs they were packed in.  FUN!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Most of these pictures were taken on Saturday, day 2 of the show.  When you set up your booth alone and people are there 2 hours before the show, you really don't have time to remember the pictures!  Sorry!

Well, I had a ball at this show and I think I've had enough rest.  Time to catch up on a little (and I mean little) house work!  :)  Then it's time to start building for the show in August!  I'll keep you posted!!!

Thanks again for stopping by and have a good one.  Shell

Check Out This Alley Find

Hi guys!  Check this out!

Miss Joy and I went for a short walk today.  She's a little ticked at me for being so tired.  She just doesn't get it.  I'm getting too old (OK! out of shape) to be doing an art show that lasts 3 days with all this heavy stuff.  SO!  She whined at me until I finally gave in and we went walking.  Thank goodness we did!

Here, you can see we found a bird bath.  Not any thing over the top and outrageous!  Just a really nice bird bath.

It's resin, very heavy, but fun!

Nice little frog!

Another frog!

It's pretty dirty.  BUT!  I can get it cleaned up.

It looks like one of my sister's is going to get themselves a "brand new" bird bath!!!

Don't you just love finding some thing that you can really use?  Have you found any thing lately???  Some times the smallest things can be so much fun!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your week!  Stay dry and warm.

Thanks for stopping by and have a good one!  Shell

Thank You From The Bottom Of My ♥!!!

I have to tell you about the great weekend I had visiting with all the wonderful people who came to Sorticulture over the weekend!

As always the show was full of energy, creativity and beauty.  Every where you looked there was art, plants, music, painted faces and SMILES!!!  Laughing could be heard from one end of the show to the other.  Dogs and kids every where!  Even though it was cold as could be on Friday, people showed up.  THANK YOU!!!  We even saw a toddler running around in a polar fleece snowman suit and boots.  He was warm and in heaven.

While all the vendors are great,,, the customers and visitors are what make the show what it is.  I had people come all the way from Eastern Washington just to buy from me!  You guys rock!  Thanks!!!!  You ALL mean so much to me.  Thank You!!!

I was lucky and had a sister show up to help me tear down the booth and then go to dinner with me.  Love ya sis!

Well.  I got my acceptance into a show on the waterfront in August called Fresh Paint.  I'll let you know more about it as we get closer to it's date and I'll even share some pictures with you so you can see what's coming!

Time to get some sleep and call it a WEEK!  I get so pumped up about this show I don't sleep more then 2 to 3 hours a night starting Wednesday and ending Sunday (I hope!).  SO!  Don't be surprised if I disappear for the week!

Thanks for stopping by and have a good one!  Shell

Sorticulture is in Full Swing!

Hi guys!

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who stopped by Sorticulture Friday.  What a great day.  It was cold!  NO!  I take that back ,,,  it was COLD!!!  It sprinkled a little through out the day.  We even had a couple minutes of monster sized hale.  WELL!  Big for Washington!  Through all of it ,,,  people came!

Thank you!

Every one's sales were excellent today.  I sold a lot of art today and I'll have more Saturday.  As always, my customers are the  BEST

Thank you so very much for your love of my art, your faith in my abilities and the kindness and patience you showed while I was busy!

Every vendor there is always happy with our wonderful customers.  If you haven't made it yet ,,, there's still 2 days left.  Hope you can make it!  If not, maybe next year!!!

2 working days til Sorticulture!

This is just a quick HELLO!  And to show you a couple more pieces going to the show starting Friday.  EEK!  I'm so excited!!!!

Check out these old lamp and truck parts!!!

An old lamp is now sitting in the garden giving
you lots of color and texture.

Another old lamp!

I think this is an old brake light
from a large truck.

I loved this board so much.  Great color!  The hole was great so I framed it with some funky "thing".  Then I added a door knob to another hole, then added the old truck part and topped it off with another "thing".

 A closer look!

That's it for now.  I started on some driftwood hangings that are fun, then it started to rain.  So, I went in the garage for a while and tried to clean up a nasty old, wonderful birdcage and stand.  I hope to have it at the show too!

Thanks for stopping by and have a good one!  Shell

Garden potting bench anyone???

Sorry it's been a while since I've been here.  The weather around here has been up and down and I've been trying to get outside to build what I can for Sorticulture!  It was sun shining here for at least 1/2 hour today.  So, quickly,,, let me show you a sweet new garden potting bench and then I have got to get back outside.

Potting Bench

waiting for some thing to hold

magnet board, wire and springs to hold pics, an
old laundry line, hat, boot, work tools, hooks ...
what more could a bench need?

Only 4 more building days left until the show.  Then one day to move in and it's show time.  I can't wait!!!  If you are in the area, stop by.  I'll be in booths 145 & 146.

Thanks for stopping by and have a good one!  Shell
